Engine and 1,095 hp

What it is: The 2026 Papadakis Racing GR Supra uses a 3.2-litre B58 turbo straight-six with nitrous. It makes 1,095 hp and 950 lb-ft of torque.
Why it matters: Power lets the driver break rear-tyre grip with the throttle, then meter the slide angle. Too little and the car straightens; too much and it spins.
What it costs: €70–140k; Estimate for the race engine, turbo, fuel system and control electronics.
Remember this: This engine makes almost three times the power of a road-going 2026 GR Supra.

Steering angle kit

What it is: Modified uprights, tie rods and arms let the front wheels turn roughly 65° or more — far beyond a road car.
Why it matters: When the car slides sideways, the front wheels point almost the other way. That lock keeps them aimed where the car must travel and saves a spin.
What it costs: €6–15k
Remember this: At 65° the wheel looks almost sideways to the body — not damage, but the driver's drift safety margin.

Hydraulic handbrake

What it is: A separate tall lever instantly clamps the rear brakes. It uses hydraulic pressure rather than a road car's cable.
Why it matters: A quick pull starts a slide or corrects the line. Holding it scrubs speed, so 2026 judges reward precise use rather than constant use.
What it costs: €1–3k
Remember this: The driver often touches it for less than half a second — enough to lock tyres built for racing speeds.

Rear tyres and smoke

What it is: The 2026 GR Supra runs wide 305/35 R18 Kenda rear tyres. The driver deliberately sends them more power than they can hold at that moment.
Why it matters: Grip is sacrificed to start the slide, yet the team still chases forward drive. Lots of smoke without pace does not fool the judges.
What it costs: €600–1,200 per pair; A competition weekend can consume dozens of pairs.
Remember this: The white cloud is vaporised tyre rubber — one rear pair may not survive even a few minutes of battle.

Clutch and 4-speed gearbox

What it is: A tough four-speed racing gearbox and triple-disc clutch send the full engine hit to the rear wheels. Gears engage directly, without slow synchronisers.
Why it matters: A quick clutch kick flares the revs and breaks the tyres loose again when the car starts to straighten. The gearbox must take that shock several times per run.
What it costs: €25–50k
Remember this: Four gears are enough because the course is short and each ratio keeps the engine inside its power band.

Locked differential

What it is: A quick-change rear differential turns both wheels at nearly the same speed. The team swaps ratios to suit each course.
Why it matters: An open road differential can spin only one wheel and make the slide unpredictable. A locked axle gives even smoke and stable angle.
What it costs: €8–20k
Remember this: One gear-set change can tune the car for a slow wall section or a fast oval entry.

Drift suspension geometry

What it is: Custom RS-R dampers, springs and relocated pickup points control wheel angles throughout the slide. The front needs steering travel; the rear must keep driving forward.
Why it matters: A drift car cannot simply be stiff. The suspension must transfer weight quickly in a transition without bouncing the car toward a wall.
What it costs: €12–30k
Remember this: Left and right can be set differently because a competition course often favours one direction.

Cooling inside the smoke

What it is: Large radiators, an intercooler, fans and pumps shed engine heat even when the car travels sideways and receives less clean air.
Why it matters: 1,095 hp makes heat constantly while tyre smoke chokes the airflow. Overheating can end a run before the finish.
What it costs: €8–25k
Remember this: Fans run even in the start queue — for a race engine, waiting can be harder than driving.

Safety cage

What it is: A welded tube cage, approved seat, six-point harness, fuel cell and fire system turn the shell into a protective capsule under the 2026 rules.
Why it matters: In tandem battles cars slide centimetres from a rival and a concrete wall. The safety system must work through multiple impacts, not just one.
What it costs: €20–50k
Remember this: Crossed tubes fill the doorway — the driver climbs through the cage rather than simply sitting down.

Judging: line, angle, style

What it is: In 2026 qualifying, telemetry awards 80% for line and drift angle while three judges award 20% for driving style. Tandem battles also demand proximity and matching the lead car.
Why it matters: Drifting is not a simple speed race. The driver must fill marked zones, hold big angle and do it precisely, smoothly and aggressively.
What it costs: €3–10k per test day; A public estimate for team track, tyre, fuel and data work — not a championship fee.
Remember this: Smoke can hide the car from sight, but in 2026 sensors still measure its position, speed and angle live.

The driver's hands and feet

What it is: The wheel, throttle, brakes, clutch, gear lever and hydraulic handbrake control six different car movements at once.
Why it matters: Throttle changes angle, steering catches direction and the left foot trims speed without removing power. Electronics measure it, but a human still controls the slide.
What it costs: €5–15k; Estimate for wheel, pedal box, levers, seat and controls.
Remember this: In one transition the driver may release and catch the wheel, shift gear and work three pedals — in about one second.
